In total, 46 Tipperary players are involved this season, spread across ten different colleges, underlining once again the depth of hurling talent coming out of the Premier County.

TUS Midwest lead the way in terms of numbers, boasting a remarkable 13 Tipperary players on their panel. That list includes senior intercounty panellists in the form of Sean Kenneally and Paddy McCormack, while possible Tipperary U20 panellists Sam Rowan and Andy Hoolan also feature. TUS Midwest have been drawn in Group C alongside University of Galway and UCD.

SETU Waterford also have a solid Premier County presence, with four players involved with while Paddy Phelan of Upperchurch Drombane and Philip O’Connell from Loughmore Castleiney the most notable of their Tipperary contingent. SETU Waterford will compete in Group D with ATU Galway and Mary Immaculate College.

Mary Immaculate College will field six Tipperary players, including senior hurling panellist Joe Caesar, and senior football panellist Eoin Craddock, with additional representation from Knockavilla Kickhams, Golden Kilfeacle, Cashel King Cormacs and St Mary’s. Mary Immaculate are also part of Group D.

The University of Limerick themselves have seven Tipperary players, including Aaron Morgan, Young Hurler of the Year Darragh McCarthy from Toomevara and Tipperary U20 panellist Jamie Ormond.

Smaller numbers are spread across other institutions. Senior hurling panellists across other colleges include University College Cork, with Darragh Stakelum of Thurles Sarsfields and Peter McGarry in situ again, while MTU Cork have Joe Egan.

University of Galway features Nenagh Éire Óg brothers Cian and Sam O’Farrell, while there is no Tipperary representation this year with ATU Galway, UCD or DCU.

With players involved across all four Fitzgibbon Cup groups, Tipperary supporters will have plenty of reasons to keep a close eye on the competition in the weeks ahead, as familiar club names look to make their mark on the premier third-level hurling stage.
