The University of Limerick's remarkable dominance of colleges' hurling continued apace as their Freshers team won their All-Ireland title last night, defeating ATU Galway 2-21 to 1-15 with Tipperary well represented yet again.
Winners of the Fitzgibbon Cup and the second-string Intermediate Championship, the Plassey production line shows no sign of abating as the UL first years cruised to national glory.
After an astounding 44-point 8-32 to 0-12 win over UCC in the semi-final, a side that included Tipperary U20 panellists Cormac Fitzpatrick (Drom & Inch), Robbie Ryan (Holycross Ballycahill), David Costigan (Moycarkey Borris), Killian Cantwell (Moycarkey Borris), along with fellow county men Keith Loughnane (Thurles Sarsfields), and Michael Cleary (Kilruane MacDonaghs) added to the UL trophy cabinet with this win at Liam Mellows GAA club in Galway.
Cormac Fitzpatrick was the man of the moment, scoring a late and decisive goal to seal the comeback win last night for UL.
