Myles Butchers in Ardfinnan
Myles Butchers in Ardfinnan has announced that they will cease trading next month, as Tommy Myles has made the decision to retire after 70 years working in the shop
The announcement was made on Thursday morning, April 9, where the 87-year-old said that it was with a ‘heavy heart’ that he made the decision, thanking his staff, his family, his customers, and remembering his late wife Ina.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I announce that Myles Butchers, Ardfinnan, will cease trading from Saturday 2 May 2026 at 5pm.
“The shop has proudly served the people of Ardfinnan, Ballybacon, Grange, Newcastle and the surrounding areas since my father started the business in 1926 and after 100 years at the heart of the village, this decision has not been made lightly.
“Now, in my 87th year, with over 70 years working in the shop, the time has now come for me to retire, and in light of the extremely difficult trading circumstances in recent years, I believe this is the right decision.
“I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has worked with me in the shop over the years, with special appreciation to my late wife, Ina, and my family, and of course to all our current and past employees for their dedication, loyalty, and friendship. As a business we have always taken great pride in our work and appreciated everyone's custom.
“To our loyal customers, thank you for shopping with us over the generations and for allowing the shop to become such a central part of the village. Your support has meant more than words can express, and it is with genuine sadness that I have come to this decision.
“Finally, to our suppliers, local farmers, family and friends, thank you for your help, cooperation and goodwill throughout the years.
“We will miss the fun, the chats and the craic with all of you, something which has been at the heart of your visit to us over the years. Thank you all”.
