LIVE: Woman arrested at the opening of new Tipperary bridge

A woman (30s) who was arrested for public order offences has since been released without charge

An incident occurred yesterday afternoon, 22 May, at the opening ceremony of the new Brian Boru bridge which connects the towns of Ballina, co Tipperary and Killaloe, Co Clare. 

In an official statement issued to the media, Gardaí said that they attended the scene of a public gathering at Killaloe, co Clare on Thursday 22 May 2025 at approximately 4pm.

A woman (30s) who was arrested for public order offences has since been released without charge.

During the course of the ceremony, a protest in support of Palestine was taking place on the Killaloe side of the bridge just within earshot of the official ceremony taking place on the bridge.

Gardaí were present at both sides of the bridge blocking members of the public from entering the bridge for the duration of the ceremony.

The group of protesters were shouting "Darragh O'Brien, you can't hide, you're supporting genocide" among other protest statements.
