A joint operation was conducted in Nenagh on Friday involving the National Road Authority Compliance Officers, Department of Social Welfare, Revenue Inspectors, and An Garda Síochána to detect and prosecute those offering unlicensed Hackney services to the public by unlicensed drivers and vehicles.

Illegal operators often have the incorrect insurance type for this work.
The operation resulted in a number of stops, and prosecution files will be prepared in relation to any potential offences disclosed.

Inspector Aiden Lonergan said: "Today’s operation demonstrates our desire to see that members of the public using hackney services do so with reassurance that the vehicle and driver meet all the necessary requirements to ensure safety and comfort."
