Fantastic news this week for the town of Nenagh and its surrounds, as local TD Alan Kelly has shared that work has commenced on the building of 307 new homes on Dromin Road, Nenagh.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kelly said:

"Prior to the last election I made a commitment to deliver much needed houses for Nenagh and I have delivered on this. This week we are adding substantially to this with the announcement that Quantum Homes has commenced work on their site at Droim an Óir on Dromin road in Nenagh.

"This will deliver 307 A2 energy rated, high-quality, energy-efficient homes in Nenagh in a fabulous location close to all amenities and within walking distance of the town centre and a short drive from the M7 motorway.

"I worked very closely with the developers and I want to thank Miceál Sammon and Quantum Homes for coming to Nenagh and delivering these houses. A huge amount of work has gone into getting this project off the ground and ensuring services were ready.

"As everyone locally is aware this site has been left with a few houses constructed for over 15 years ago and no one was willing to develop it. I was determined to ensure this changed and have worked on getting these houses built for a number of years.

"The great news is that with Quantum on board these 307 houses are being built with a huge team on site so they will be delivered quickly. Approximately 100 will be built this year. Purchasers will be in a position to buy off plans by Easter, a show village will be in place by the Summer and it is expected that the first 45 houses will have the keys handed over to heir new owners by the third quarter of this year.

"There also aims to be social and affordable homes as part of the scheme and it will also include a purpose-built crèche with capacity for approximately 85 children.

"Furthermore, the level of construction activity on the site means that there is a huge spin off to the local economy through their activities in the town and use of hardware stores, shops, restaurants etc. There will be over 150 workers on site and two thirds of them will come from the local Tipperary and Mid West area.

"This development continues my delivery of housing for Nenagh. This follows on from the large scale development made by Whitebox in Tyone in Nenagh which I was instrumental in and will deliver over 300 houses along with the new nearly completed 32 houses on Dublin road (behind Abbey Court Hotel) which have been developed by SIEC. With over 650 units under construction and planned, Nenagh now has one of the largest amount of houses being built per capita in any town in Ireland.

"I’m delighted to have worked so closely with Quantum on Drom on Óir and want to thank Miceál and his team for their commitment to Nenagh. I look forward to these houses being occupied by many local people over the coming years."
