Borrisokane’s Pauric O’Meara has been cast on season two of The Traitors Ireland

A singer-songwriter from just outside Borrisokane is hoping to outwit his fellow contestants after stepping into the world of ‘The Traitors Ireland’.

Pauric O’Meara, a 31-year-old full-time singer-songwriter who also works as a primary school teacher, is among the contestants taking part in the second season of the hugely popular RTÉ show, which hit Irish screens on Sunday evening.

While this may be Pauric’s first time navigating a castle full of potential Traitors, it certainly isn’t his first time in front of a national television audience.

Back in 2016, Pauric appeared on the Irish version of ‘The Voice’, where he ended up going viral for his cover of the Mark McCabe classic ‘Maniac 2000’.

A decade later he is back on Irish television screens but this time he’ll have to do more than sing to convince his fellow contestants to get him all the way to the final.

In the opening episode of the new season, Pauric was not among the three contestants secretly selected by host Siobhán McSweeney to become Traitors. For now, that means Pauric is one of the Faithfuls, whose job is to work out who among the contestants is secretly a Traitor and vote them out of the game.

However, that could all change as the series progresses, with Faithful contestants potentially being recruited to join the Traitors.

For those who haven't yet succumbed to The Traitors phenomenon, the reality game show sees a group of contestants gather together in a castle over a number of weeks while attempting to identify the small number of players secretly working against them.

The contestants work together during missions to build up a cash prize, while the Traitors attempt to deceive the group and secretly “murder” a Faithful each night.

The first season of The Traitors Ireland proved hugely popular with Irish audiences, with its debut ranking among the highest-rated RTÉ shows ever.

Pauric has already enjoyed some lengthy screentime after just one episode and as someone who is used to performing on stage and in front of an audience, he certainly won't be fazed by the cameras.

If you want to get to know Pauric a bit more before the next episode, you can find Pauric on Instagram at @pauricomusic, where you can also find links to hear his music.

As someone who knows Pauric well, I have no doubt he'll be one to watch this season and I'm very much looking forward to seeing how he gets on!
