LED lighting plans for Ballina GAA club grounds

Lights are planned for the pitch and the walkway
There are plans for new floodlighting at Ballina GAA Club, with planning permission lodged for six new 20-metre high poles, each to hold six LED pitch floodlights.
There are also plans for 15 new streetlights, each six metres high, to light up the walkway around the pitch.
Another tall light, this time 12 metres high, is planned for the ball wall area.
The lighting is to allow the club to “host regional and local games”.
The original plan was to have the lights run off a diesel generator, but in a quest to be more sustainable and the “greener solution” is to run the pitch lighting system from the main grid.
An ESB meter and kiosk will also need to be installed, for the new fixtures.
Details within the planning documents show how light spill will be minimised, with the use of a “full cut off internal louvre”, taking the properties at Cullina, Shoreside, and Iniscealtra into account.
There is also predicted “minor night time use” of the pedestrian walkway by “pedal cyclists or pedestrians solely associated with adjacent properties”.
Planning is at an early stage and was lodged on August 24. A decision is due by mid-October.
