Revealed: Millions in funding for Tipperary sports clubs

Sporting groups in Tipperary will receive funding of €7,553,083 which will be hugely beneficial to members and athletes, Fine Gael General Election candidate, Michael Murphy has said.

Councillor Michael Murphy has welcomed the allocations made to local clubs which will be used for improvements to infrastructure such as improving playing and training facilities, astro-turfs, handball alleys, walking tracks, hurling walls, and floodlights.

“Its fantastic to see a huge variety of clubs in Tipperary receiving funding and will come as a major boost to members.

“Our local clubs are at the heart of our communities and any help they receive is a great source of support to local teams and sportspeople and a boost for participation in sport.

“This funding will benefit nearly 80 clubs in Tipperary. Active engagement in sports not only helps keep people healthy, but it also builds confidence, independence and promotes team building.

“It is crucial that we invest in sport for the overall health and wellbeing of our population and that is why this programme is so important.

“I will always advocate strongly for sports clubs and organisations because of the positive impact they have on our community.

“I thank all the successful applicants for the invaluable contributions they make to our community and look forward to seeing the improvements they make with this funding.

“Fine Gael is committed to supporting communities and this funding will go a long way in helping clubs not only in Tipperary, but across Ireland,” concluded Cllr Murphy.

Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill said: “I am delighted to announce yet another record breaking funding allocation by a Fianna Fáil Minister for Sport for Tipperary. Minister Thomas Byrne has informed me that Tipperary is set to receive €9,609,734 in funding".

“I would like to congratulate all the successful clubs and organisations for submitting such strong applications to the Department of Sport. It made my job as the local Government TD much easier to push for funding when such strong applications had been submitted. So much of the work done in our communities, especially by sports clubs is voluntary in nature and a huge amount of credit is due to the local volunteers who give so much of their time to their respective organisations".
