REVEALED: Over 100 claims of vehicle damage caused by potholes lodged in 2024

Tipperary County Council has revealed that the number of public liability and pot hole claims made in the county in the period for November 28, 2024 came to 145 cases. 103 were pothole claims and 42 claims related to public liability.

The combined 145 figure shows a decrease from the 224 public liability claims made in 2023 which cost Tipperary County Council €2,375,363.

As previously reported by tipperarylive.ie, pothole claims in Tipperary resulted in the cost of almost €20,000 in 2023.

Many of the claims settled in 2023 across county councils, including Tipperary County Council, predate the introduction of updated judicial guidelines for personal injuries, which aim to reduce awards for minor injuries.

Along with the update to judicial guidelines, a backlog of cases from the COVID-19 pandemic has further contributed to the high number of settlements. As a result the 2024 figures are likely to be impacted in the same way.

The Public Liability Claim process allows for a claim to be made for damages arising from road conditions.

Potential Claimants should contact Irish Public Bodies on 01-639 5500.
