Tributes have been pouring in for retired psychiatric nurse John Joe O'Brien following his peaceful passing at University Hospital Limerick on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
Friends, relatives and former colleagues left messages of condolences for the Ardfinnan man on his rip.ie page and reflected on the good John Joe had done in his life and the happy memories he has left behind for those who knew him.
One person said: "He was an out and out gentleman who did a lot of good. May he rest in eternal peace."

A former colleague wrote: "Sincere sympathy to the O'Brien family on Johns passing. I worked with John for many years in SJH. He was a gentleman to work with and loved doing the daily crosswords on his tea breaks. RIP John"
Another person said: "John Joe was a gentleman and where ever u met him had always time for a chat. May the beautiful memories you have of John Joe give u comfort during this tough time. May his gentle soul Rest In Peace"
Another person wrote: "Johnjoe was a quiet gentle man may the fun times ye shared together help ye through this difficult time our thoughts and prayers are with ye all at this sad time may Johnjoes gentle soul rest in heavenly peace"
John Joe O'Brien is sadly missed by his loving wife Sheila, sons Pádraig and Shane, daughters-in-law Claire and Karen, grandchildren Deirdre, Gráinne, Odhran, Ceoladh and Oisín (affectionally known to them as Ta), aunt Ann, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.
John Joe's funeral has already taken place.
