'A little bit of us,' Sharlene Mawdsley shares romantic snaps with boyfriend Michael Breen

"A little bit of us," doted Sharlene Mawdsley as she shared romantic snaps with her boyfriend and Tipperary senior hurler and All-Ireland winner Michael Breen on Instagram to her 274,000 followers recently. 

The 27-year-old Tipperary athlete is currently in a training camp in Hong Kong preparing for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this month and will be away from Ballina's Michael Breen for the next few weeks.

Just last month, Shannon Airport announced a new partnership with the Newport sprinter. 

400m runner and 200m national champion, as well as European medalist and Irish Olympian, Sharlene Mawdsley, will be a Shannon Airport Ambassador for the next three years.

From the track to the terminal, Sharlene has travelled the world and captivated the nation with her record-breaking performances - including taking European Gold and Silver in the 4 x 400m mixed and women's relay teams last year.

With her sights now set on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the World Athletics Championships on September 13-21 of this year, Sharlene and All-Ireland winning hurler Michael Breen have made a major change in their lives together and said goodbye to their Thurles home - marking what Sharlene called the "end of the Thurles era".

The Newport Olympian has revealed the reason she moved out of Thurles back in August in a Q&Q on Instagram with her friends.

One fan asked: "Did you move out of Thurles?"

And Sharlene replied: "Thurles was a nice chapter and Lola's (their dog's) first home but I'm not too sad to be leaving to be closer to my family and friends yay. I was 45 mins from home."

An image shared on social media earlier in the week showed two sets of house keys was shared with her over 274,000 followers on Instagram and read: "End of the Thurles era."

Tipperary's Michael Breen and Sharlene Mawdsley returned from the Canary Islands late August after a "quick visit" and have been sharing their experiences with their social media followers.

Mawdsley formed a relationship with All-Ireland winner Michael Breen, who was also tagged in the social media post, and the pair went Instagram official earlier this summer. 

During their recent trip to Tenerfife, the duo even managed to get some training in. The Tipperary power couple loved the trip away but Sharlene was quick to scold Michael when it came to one particular dinner and we couldn't agree more, Sharlene.

The Ballina man was caught eating sushi in an unusual way and Olympian Sharlene snapped him and posted the pic to her 274,000 Instagram followers saying "not the knife and fork". Breen will have to brush up on his chopstick skills. 

Breen himself has been posting pictures of their culinary experiences, including a massive breakfast!

The dynamic duo are fresh of the back of an All-Ireland Final win for Breen and Sharlene has just won her first 200m national title on top of turning 27-years-old, so a break in Tenerife is well deserved for the pair. 

Tipperary All-Ireland winner Michael Breen just recently posted a doting message to Olympian and Tipperary sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley or "Sharsy" on her 27th birthday.

Sharlene Mawdsley celebrated her 27th birthday and enjoyed a friend's engagement party with her influencer pal in Tipperary recently. 

Breen, who is going out with the Newport athlete and 200m national champion, posted a series of snaps of the pair together along with a childhood picture of Sharlene in Tipperary colours.

Mawdsley shared snaps with her 274,000 Instagram followers alongside the bride to be and Tipperary social media influencer, Niamh Cryan (see far left below).

Sharlene also shared a pic (see below) of a gift of "27 roses for 27 years" for her birthday.

Earlier in August, Mawdsley lit up Morton Stadium on the opening day of the 123.ie National Senior Athletics Championships last weekend, powering to victory in the women’s 200 metres final.

Mawdsley, in front of Tipperary All-Ireland winning hurler and boyfriend Michael Breen, crossed the line into a stiff breeze in 23.55 (-2.6 m/s).

Breen himself, grasping Sharlene's gold medal after the race, quipped in a post on Instagram: "Excuse me, this actually belongs to Buggy."

That's a reference to a viral video of Sharlene Mawdsley racing in the streets of Tipperary following the Premier County's 2025 All-Ireland Final victory over Cork in Croke Park.

Sharlene was at Croke Park to cheer on her partner during the match and by his side during the homecoming celebrations on Monday. And then her celebrations went viral.

A video widely shared online shows her beating former hurler Brian 'Buggy' O'Meara in an impromptu race - before 7am the day after the All-Ireland final homecoming festivities.

Fresh off the back of celebrating Tipperary's All-Ireland hurling win, top athlete Sharlene, 26, and Buggy, 35, were filmed having a friendly race at 6.45am.

Neither chose traditional athletic gear, with the Olympic runner sporting a dress and her bare feet and the former hurler opting to race topless.

Sharlene was kind enough to allow Buggy a head start but still found herself storming ahead to first place.

At the weekend in the 200m national final, Sharlene held off strong challenges from Sarah Lavin (Emerald AC), who clocked 23.80 for silver, and Lauren Roy (Fast Twitch AC), who secured bronze in 23.88.

The win saw Mawdsley claim her first senior outdoor 200 metres title in front of huge crowds in Santry.

Speaking after the race, the Newport AC athlete said: "I'm happy with that. I knew today was going to be a really hard task and to come out on top, I'm absolutely thrilled.

"Sarah [Lavin] was ahead of me and I was just saying to myself, stay calm, stay strong and dig deep, and thankfully I ended up winning the title. It was a pity about the wind, but it was close to a PB and that’ll give me great confidence heading into my last race before the worlds on the 16th of this month."

Mawdsley, who spent hours signing autographs for adoring young fans, withdrew from the 400 metres heats on the back of her medal-winning display.
