A beloved teacher from Tipperary has sadly passed away in hospital recently

Tipperary is in mourning following the passing of a well known and respected teacher and friend to many.

Vincent O'Meara from Ard na Sidhe, Clonmel died peacefully on Friday, the 28th of August at Tipperary University Hospital.

Tributes have poured in on RIP.ie for Vincent and his family, as one mourner said: “Both our sons had the privilege of being taught by Mr. O'Meara.

“A wonderful teacher who had time for everyone and had great kindness for his students. He was a gentleman. Our sincere condolences to Vincent's family. You are in our thoughts at this most difficult time. Rest in peace Mr. O'Meara”.

Clonmel Og GAA club paid tribute to Vincent with a message that said: “To all members past and present, we want to extent our deepest condolences to Vinnie’s wife Helen, his mother Nora, his sister Grace and the O’Meara, Hewitt and Hogan families and his wide circle of friends and colleagues.

“To say that Vinnie was an integral part of Clonmel Og since its inception does not do justice to his lifelong contribution to our club.

“Vinnie was among the first group of children that joined the club at its formation in 1984. He wore the club colours with distinction at every level, in both hurling and football. Notable among his many achievements were South Junior A Football titles in 1995 and 1997 and South Junior B Hurling title in 2000. More than just playing the games, Vinnie loved everything about Clonmel Og; training, matches, celebrations and no post-match analysis was complete without his input; always encouraging and never too far off the mark.

“When Vinnie moved into the administration side of the club, he served as Club Secretary from the mid 90’s to 2006 and was the club’s South Board delegate for close to 20 years. His personality and love of the club were perfect for these roles and he guided us for those years with a steady hand and calm reassurance.

“Vinnie also served as a selector on both hurling and football teams for the club with his calm presence and boundless enthusiasm. Vinnie’s passing is a loss that our club will feel for a long time but his memory will stay with us forever”.

Another person said: “Heartfelt sympathy to Helen, sister, Grace and mother, Nora on Vincent's death. I was truly shocked and saddened to learn of his death. Words fail to describe the positive impact he made on all who knew him. His quiet, understated manner endeared him to all.

“His impact as a respected educator is testimant to his commitment to the teaching profession. His advice was clearly sought and respected by many. May you find some comfort in the wonderful legacy he has left. May his gentle soul rest in peace”.

Predeceased by his father Michael, Vincent is sadly missed by his loving wife Helen, mother Nora, sister Grace, his extended family, and friends.
