Tipperary national school celebrates Christmas with nativity and special community tribute

Children stage festive performance and present handmade quilt to long-time friend

On Friday, 12 December, the children of Killusty National School staged a simple version of the Nativity story as part of their Christmas celebration. The show was a medley of poems, narrations and carols — some old, some new — all performed with great enthusiasm by the students.

The event was warmly supported by the families of the children, along with members of the wider school community.

One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of a knitted quilt to the school’s nearest and dearest neighbour and gardener, Christy Williams. Christy has been a valued friend of Killusty National School for many years.

Earlier in the school year, the children expressed an interest in learning how to knit. This new challenge was enthusiastically embraced, with kind assistance from Anne D’Arcy and the Fethard Knitting Group. As confidence with the needles grew, the children decided to knit with purpose. The idea of creating a quilt for Christy was proposed and instantly agreed upon by everyone.

Individual knitted squares soon came together to form a colourful Christmas quilt. With great pride, the children presented their homemade gift to Christy just days before his 94th birthday.
