Ellie Mai Gartland will box for Ireland in Russia next week

Clonmel twins Jerome Lonergan-Gartland and Ellie Mai Gartland wrote their own piece of Irish boxing history when they lined out for Ireland against England in a Senior Cadet international held in Edenderry, Co. Offaly.
In a unique family and Clonmel Boxing Club double, the first male and female twins to box for Ireland recorded victories over talented English opponents amid a tremendous atmosphere in Edenderry.
At 52 kgs Jerome beat English champion Billy Adams on a 4-1 decision in a fantastic display of boxing by Clonmel's Irish champion.
Ellie Mai, meanwhile, gave a masterclass, taking a 5-0 decision against her English opponent Sameench Toussaint in the 54 kgs weight class.
It was a real family affair in Edenderry, as Jerome and Ellie Mai's older brother and coach, Jamie, worked their corner.

The international was ideal preparation for Ellie Mai, who has been chosen to represent Ireland in the European Male and Female Junior Championships to be held beside the Black Sea in Anapa, Russia from next Monday, October 8 to Wednesday, October 17.
She is taking part in a training camp with the Irish team in Lough Lannagh, Co. Mayo before she travels to Russia.
The 26-strong Irish panel and staff depart on Sunday and everyone in the club wishes Ellie Mai and the Irish team the very best of luck.
