Tipperary woman kneads to victory as bread hits shelves of supermarket retailer nationwide
Julia's sourdough will be made by trusted Irish supplier O'Hara's of Foxford
Julia Sommer from Templemore is set to see her passion become a reality as her loaf is available in ALDI stores across her home county of Tipperary and beyond.
As the winner of the 2024 'Rise with ALDI' competition, Julia’s sourdough is available to customers across Ireland!
This exciting milestone marks the start of a new chapter for Julia, whose love for baking and dedication to perfecting her craft has earned her a spot on ALDI’s shelves.
Julia’s baking was first inspired by her mother and grandfather in Berlin. After perfecting her seeded sourdough recipe, she entered the 'Rise with ALDI' competition, competing against hundreds of talented amateur bakers, where she eventually came out on top.
As part of ALDI’s commitment to supporting local talent and promoting high-quality, locally produced products, Julia’s sourdough will be made by trusted Irish supplier, O’ Hara's of Foxford. This follows ALDI’s long-standing history of offering Irish shoppers the finest fresh-baked products from homegrown bakers.
Julia Sommer commented on her win, saying, “Winning 'Rise with ALDI' has been an incredible journey, which all started in my family kitchen in Berlin. To see my seeded sourdough in ALDI stores nationwide is an unbelievable feeling. I’m so grateful to ALDI for this opportunity and I can’t wait for the Premier County locals to try my bread!”
Laurence Kelly, Buying Director at ALDI, added, “The 'Rise with ALDI' competition showcases the extraordinary talent of amateur bakers across Ireland. Julia’s sourdough is a true testament to her passion and skill, and we are proud to support local producers by bringing her high-quality bread to our customers nationwide. With the ongoing popularity of sourdough bread, we’re confident that Julia’s Sourdough will be a big hit with our customers.”
