Visiting Templemore last week were Peter Toohey and his wife, Vicky, who have travelled all the way from Melbourne to trace their local connections.

Patrick Tuohy was born in Killawardy in 1844 and his father William subsequently moved to Polygon Lane, where he was found in 1846.

Ten years later, in 1856, the family moved on to Main Street, at the location where One19 café now stands, Paddy Cadell’s coffee shop.

Further research saw Tuohy family members living at the homes of former Patrick Street residents, O’Meara’s and Wright’s (Ray Meagher's old shop) in the 1890s, and also on Barrack Street in the early 1900s.

For many living locally, tracing ancestors can be relatively easy if the connections are close by, but never underestimate the importance of what it means to somebody who has travelled all around the world to find out where their ancestors left from all those years ago.
