Tipperary athletics club hosts successful annual four-mile running competition

Thurles was alive with energy and enthusiasm on Thursday, June 19, as the annual Dave Fogarty 4-Mile Road Race drew a fantastic turnout, with over 120 runners hitting the town under clear skies and favourable conditions.

Leading the charge was local Thurles Crokes athlete Shane Moloney, who blazed across the finish line with a 22:26, claiming the top podium spot in commanding fashion.

Not far behind was another club stalwart, John Fitzgibbon, who secured 3rd place with a 22:45.

In the women’s event, the ever-consistent Dymphna Ryan of Dundrum delivered another superb performance, finishing first in 23:18.

Thurles Crokes' own Sharon Kiely followed strongly to take 2nd place in the women’s field, clocking 25:08.

It was also a memorable evening for the club’s younger talent.

Ally Cummins showed tremendous determination to emerge as the first junior girl home in an excellent time of 33:03, while Zach Culley took the honour of first junior male, making it a proud night for the next generation of local runners.

The club offers a heartfelt congratulations goes out to all the category winners on the night, each one playing their part.

They also offer a special thanks to the tireless efforts of race organisers, volunteers, and all who contributed behind the scenes to make the event run smoothly.

Gratitude, they say, is also due to Premier Timing Systems for their professionalism, and to the ever-reliable PA John Moore, who kept everyone informed and entertained throughout the evening.

And of course, they also offer a massive thank you to every participant who lined up at the start, whether chasing a personal best or simply taking in the atmosphere, you all made this another memorable edition of the Dave Fogarty 4-Miler.
