Construction nears completion on Tipperary McDonald's as opening date announced

Thurles’ McDonald’s location is due to open on August 19
The new McDonald’s outlet in Thurles is scheduled to open on August 19, almost exactly a year after the fast food chain was given the go-ahead by An Coimisiún Pleanála.
In advance of the opening, the ubiquitous American chain is hiring full-time and part-time employees to train them in time for the grand opening, with wages starting at the minimum wage range, €14.25 per hour for those over 20.
The development was originally granted permission in May 2025, but went to the Board for approval on foot of a number of objections.
Ultimately, the Board determined that such a development ‘not seriously injure the amenities of property in the vicinity, would not be prejudicial to public health and would be acceptable in terms of flood risk, traffic and pedestrian safety and visual amenity’.
Permission is being sought from the Tipperary County Council for a further development on the restaurant grounds.
The development will consist of the addition of a 6.5-metre totem sign with the unmistakable yellow acrylic ‘Golden Arch’, to be located on the south-western side of the site, and all associated works necessary to facilitate the development.
Permission for a 12-metre tall totem was not granted to the developers, leading the developers to drastically reduce the size of the proposed totem to about half of the original size.
The final decision on the development is expected by September 10 this year, after the restaurant opens to the public.
