BREAKING: Man (80s) passes away after assault in Tipperary over the weekend

The man, aged in his 30s, arrested in relation to this incident remains detained under the provisions of Section 4 Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in county Tipperary.

The injured party, a man in his 80s, has since passed away in University Hospital Limerick.

Gardaí continue to investigate a serious assault that occurred at St Michael’s Avenue in Tipperary Town on Friday, September 12, 2025, at approximately 9.35pm.

The local Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) is leading the investigation and a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) is providing support to the family of the deceased.

Gardaí continue to appeal for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Anyone who was in the area of St Michael’s Avenue between 7pm and 10pm, and has video camera footage (including dash-cam), is asked to make it available to Gardaí.
