Design team appointment underway for Tipperary main street renewal

Design Team Appointment Underway for Tipperary Town Main Street Renewal
Progress on heritage-led regeneration in Tipperary was discussed at the recent Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel Municipal District meeting, with an update sought on the future of 7–8 Main Street under the Historic Towns Initiative (HTI).
Tipperary County Council has been awarded €50,000 under the 2026 HTI programme, which is aimed at supporting the conservation and reuse of historic buildings, while also promoting residential and commercial regeneration in town centres.
Nationally, 18 historic towns are sharing €2 million in funding under the scheme, which the Department of Heritage says is intended to support heritage-led regeneration, traditional building skills, and the sustainable reuse of historic properties.
In Tipperary Town, the funding is intended to support the regeneration of 7–8 Main Street, with plans to incorporate significant residential accommodation on upper floors, addressing the ongoing shortage of town centre housing.
Cllr. Annemarie Ryan of Sinn Féin requested an update on the project timeline and asked when the scheme would progress to Part 8 planning.
She highlighted the importance of delivering the project promptly, given the need for additional accommodation and town centre revitalisation.
District Director Damien Ginty confirmed that the council is currently in the process of appointing a design team.
He stated that the project is expected to move forward to design completion and then to statutory Part 8 public consultation by Quarter 4 of this year.
Over €30,000 has also been secured in conservation funding for DW Parkes Chemist on Gladstone Street in Clonmel. Clonmel and Tipp Town are the only places in Tipperary receiving these funds.
