The change, reducing the previous limit of 80km/h, aims to enhance road safety for all users.

Tipperary County Council advises that a new default speed limit of 60km/h for all rural local roads in the Republic of Ireland came into effect on Friday, February 7, 2025.

This change, reducing the previous limit of 80km/h, aims to enhance road safety for all users.

The Department of Transport conducted a national review of speed limits in 2023, leading to the Road Traffic Act 2024, which introduced new default speed limits across Ireland.

This initiative aims to reduce road fatalities and serious injuries by influencing driving behaviours and improving road safety.

The new default speed limit of 60km/h applies to all rural local roads in county Tipperary, excluding regional and national roads, and roads with existing special speed limits of 30km/h or 50km/h.

These changes are part of a phased approach to improving road safety, with further reviews planned for 2025.

Notice is hereby given as follows:

The new default speed limit for all rural local roads in county Tipperary will be 60km/h (previously 80km/h).

This new default speed limit came into effect on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Please note that this new default speed limit does not include:

All regional roads and all national roads.

All public roads with a current special speed limit of 30km/h.

All public roads with a current special speed limit of 50km/h.

These categories will be addressed in subsequent phases of the speed limit review, which are intended to be progressed in 2025.

All road users are requested to obey the new speed limits to ensure the safety of everyone on our roads.
