Hollywood star Patrick Bergin has put his castle on the Tipperary border up for sale for €995,000.

The castle, which is in Offaly but located close to Cloughjordan, features a complex of 15th and 17th century buildings and is set on approximately 20 acres of private woodlands and gardens.

Emmel Castle is one of the most striking structures in the north Tipperary landscape.

Bergin, who starred alongside Julia Roberts in Sleeping With The Enemy, has made the castle his home over the last 35 years.

It is a cohesive mix of historic styles, incorporating the tower house and the late seventeenth-century house, with nineteenth-century alterations.

The property has four beds and three baths, as well as a wide range of rooms including an art room and a music room.

The castle was listed by Sherry FitzGerald Talbot on September 2.
