What are Tertiary degrees?

Tertiary degrees are partnerships between ETBs and universities which provide access for people to university degrees, without going through the conventional CAO points system. It’s a different route to the same degree.

Tertiary Degree students don’t pay fees in Year 1 when they’re studying at an ETB, and entry requirements are never based on the CAO points system. Selection criteria is specific to that degree, including certain subject requirements, portfolios or an interview.

In Tipperary, four Tertiary Degrees are available to students - Applied Sports Science (a partnership between Tipperary FET College – Thurles and TUS Thurles), Digital Arts (Tipperary FET College – Clonmel and TUS Clonmel), Mental Health Nursing (Tipperary FET College – Roscrea and TUS Athlone), and Primary Teaching (Tipperary FET College – Nenagh and Mary Immaculate College, Limerick).
