Fethard will host County Tipperary 10 Mile Road Championship
Ideal way to round off very succcessful season
The final event of the 2026 County Tipperary Road Championships takes place in Fethard at 9am this Sunday with the promotion of the County 10 Mile Road Championships for both men and women.
The County Board are very grateful to Fethard Athletic Club for hosting the event. The race headquarters is Fethard Town Park and the race will start close to Dalton’s Pharmacy on Main Street.
Eligibility for these championships is that athletes must be 20 years of age and over as of December 31 2026.
Last year’s event over this route attracted a very good entry of 88 athletes and there was a very competitive race. The men’s race was won by Emmet McNamara, Fethard AC, in 53 minutes 47 seconds. Then we had Dermot Gorman, Carrick-on- Suir AC winning the silver medal in 54 minutes 7 seconds, with Barry Hartnett of Dundrum AC winning the bronze medal in 55 minutes 7 seconds.
Mossie Bracken, Moycarkey Coolcroo was fourth (57.36), fifth was Tom O’Connell, Dundrum AC in 58.22 and Conor Keating, Moycarkey Coolcroo AC was sixth in 60.18. The club champions were Fethard AC.
In the Women’s race last year Dymphna Ryan of Dundrum AC won in 62 minutes 3 seconds. Then we had Louise Fogarty of Moyne AC winning the silver medal in 66 minutes 5 seconds, with her clubmate Sharon Cantwell winning the bronze medal in 66 minutes 29 seconds.
Eileen McCullough of Moyne AC was fourth (66.37), with Linda Grogan, Dundrum AC fifth (68.54) and Edel Roche Fethard AC sixth (69.55). Here, the club champions were Moyne AC.
These championships also incorporate a Masters event and medals in all the age categories for the top three, and with so much at stake for both individual and club, this championship race should be very competitive.
It’s an ideal way to finish off what has been a very successful County Road Championships.
