Another personal best for Tipperary athlete Sharlene Mawdsley

Great performance by Newport athlete in Brussels
Tipperary’s Sharlene Mawdsley ran a second personal best in three days to win the 400 metres at the Continental Tour Bronze meeting in Brussels on Saturday evening.
This followed her success her in Italy earlier in the week.
The Newport athlete’s time of 50.17 seconds was good enough to beat Belgium’s Helena Ponette, who was just under a second behind, finishing in 51.15, with French athlete Isabelle Black following in third place in 51.34.
Mawdsley improved on the 50.52 personal best she set in her opening race of the season last Wednesday, a time that surpassed her previous best from the Olympic Games in Paris two years ago.
The European mixed relay gold medallist cut a further 0.35 seconds off that mark at the meeting in the King Baudouin Stadium at the weekend.
Her good form offers plenty of encouragement for her participation in the European Athletics Championships, which will be held in Birmingham from August 10-16.
