Our Lady’s Templemore lost out to Cork opposition in Bansha on Wednesday afternoon

TUS Dr Harty Cup - Group 3 - Round 2

Our Lady’s Templemore 0-14

Christian Brothers College Cork 0-18

Christian Brothers College picked up their second win in the 2026/27 TUS Dr Harty Cup campaign and powered into the knockout stages, as Our Lady’s Secondary School Templemore exited the competition at Canon Hayes Park, Bansha, on Wednesday afternoon, having also lost to St Flannan’s Ennis in round one.

Played in sharp, dry conditions, with no wind to contend with, at this West Tipp venue, the Templemore side trailed by five at the break, before staging a good second-half recovery that just came up short in the latter stages.

Trailing by seven (0-14 to 0-7) after forty-one minutes, they hit six unanswered points over the next nine minutes to cut the deficit to the minimum, but the Sidney Hill outfit struck back with four late points from placed balls to advance to the knockout stages with a game in hand.

CBC were quickly out of the traps with three early points, before Our Lady’s opened their account in the sixth minute, and dictated the game for long periods.

While both sides were guilty of wayward shooting, it was the Cork side who finished the half in a flurry with three late points after the Templemore side had cut the lead back to two by the twenty-eighth minute.

Following the restart, CBC pushed on and hit three of the opening four points, before Our Lady’s played their best hurling of the game, with Jack Bevans leading from the back with four points, three from frees.

They had eaten into a seven-point lead but were unable to draw level as CBC got their second wind and pushed on over the final minutes.

CBC won the toss and elected to attack the far end for the opening half, on a day when wind wasn’t a factor. They went on the attack from the throw-in and Michael Quill opened their account from a placed ball inside two minutes.

Cian O’Flynn doubled their advantage before Ben Hegarty hit the first of his three points after four minutes, collecting a long ball from midfield before splitting the posts.

Even at this early stage, they showed their attacking capabilities, especially Danny O’Donovan with his off-the-ball running. He would go on to have a major contribution to their first-half tally.

Padraic O’Shea eventually got Our Lady’s off the mark from a placed ball, before feeding Jack Noonan, who cut the deficit to the minimum.

CBC then hit three wides in succession before Max Murphy landed the first of his six long-range points, this one from open play after his effort from a free had dropped short, before being recycled back out the field. He quickly followed up with a converted free from the halfway line to go three up again.

Cathal Ryan, in the Templemore goal, came to the rescue when saving close-in from Ben Hegarty after being set up by Danny O’Donovan, to keep Our Lady’s in the game.

Around this period, they were guilty of a few misses both from open play and placed balls, before Sean Burke pulled one back following a quick free from Padraic O’Shea.

Max Murphy landed two huge points from inside his own half, either side of a Padraic O’Shea minor from a free. Jack Noonan and Michael Quill traded points from open play before O’Shea cut the deficit to two in the twenty-eighth minute.

However, Christians finished the stronger with three minors on the bounce, the first from Tom Huggins when he got on the end of a cross-field ball from Danny O’Donovan and two from Ben Hegarty, again from an O’Donovan assist.

After the restart, CBC hit three of the opening four points to go into a seven-point lead by the forty-first minute, with points from Max Murphy and Michael Quill from placed balls and Danny O’Donovan, who turned over a defender.

Our Lady’s then came alive and played their best hurling of the game, with Jack Bevans leading from the back.

He landed two huge frees from well inside his own half, before Padraic O’Shea converted his fifth free to eat into the Christians’ lead.

Bevans then followed up with two more minors, one from a free, to reduce the lead to the minimum, with nine minutes left to play.

However, this was as close as they would get as the Cork side finished out the game with four points, all from placed balls, to guarantee their place in the knockout stages.
