Munster Intermediate Ladies Football Championship Quarter-Final
Templemore 2-10
Tramore 0-6
Templemore booked their place in the Munster Ladies Intermediate Club Championship semi-final with a convincing ten-point victory over Tramore in Templetuohy on Saturday.
A strong opening half laid the foundations for the Tipperary side, who led by 1-7 to 0-3 at the interval. Goals from Kate Nevin and Kate Delaney proved decisive, while Áine Delaney contributed four points from play as Templemore maintained control throughout.
Tramore captain Abbie Dunphy accounted for five of her side’s six points, four from frees, but the Waterford representatives were left chasing the game after conceding the opening six scores.
Templemore signalled their attacking intent almost immediately, with Neassa Towey striking the woodwork inside the opening minute. Their breakthrough came through Áine Delaney, who opened the scoring in the fourth minute and added two further points to establish a three-point advantage.
Shona McBride extended the lead before Kate Delaney also found the target. When Towey converted a free in the 16th minute, Templemore were six points clear and Tramore had yet to register.
Dunphy eventually opened the Waterford side’s account with a point from play, but Templemore responded almost immediately. Kate Nevin struck the first goal in the 18th minute, pushing the advantage out to eight points at 1-6 to 0-1.
Fiona McHale added a point from play to strengthen Templemore’s position further. Tramore steadied before the break, however, with Anna McGoldrick scoring from play and Dunphy converting a free to leave seven points between the teams at half-time.
Áine Delaney picked up where she had left off on the restart, kicking her fourth point from play to put Templemore 1-8 to 0-3 ahead.
Tramore replied through two Dunphy frees, reducing the deficit to six points and keeping themselves within reach. Any prospect of a sustained recovery suffered a major setback in the 41st minute, though, when Kate Delaney scored Templemore’s second goal.
That finish made it 2-8 to 0-5 and restored a commanding nine-point cushion at a crucial stage.
Delaney subsequently received a yellow card, but Tramore were unable to make significant inroads. Templemore conceded only one further point over the remainder of the contest, keeping a clean sheet as they protected their advantage.
McHale converted a free in the 51st minute to stretch the margin to ten. Dunphy answered with her fifth point, again from a placed ball, before Caithyn Treacy supplied the final score with a point from play in the 58th minute.
Templemore’s early scoring burst and ability to answer Tramore’s best spells with goals were central to the outcome. Seven players contributed to their tally, with Áine Delaney’s accuracy helping establish the platform for a deserved passage into the provincial last four.
