Eleven couples take to the floor for 'Strictly' for Hospice in Clonmel

A Strictly for Hospice event will take place on Friday March 31 in Clonmel.
It will take place in Hotel Minella and funds raised will go to support the incredible work being done by South Tipperary Hospice.

The past three years have been so difficult for so many. It is hard to believe now what what everybody had to endure and how lives were changed for ever including loss of life and many heartreaking stories.
While the country was in lockdown the brave nurses of the South Tipperary Hospice were angels to those in most need in their final hours, they truly are angels and are supported by the funding raised by South Tipperary Hospice.

SOUTH TIPP HOSPICE
For over thirty years the South Tipperary Hospice Movement has operated in the homes of families of terminally ill people.
This represents a remarkable story of courage, compassion, dignity and a phenomenal level of generosity.
Located at the Quay in Clonmel, the local Hospice is a community-based, consultant-led, specialist palliative care service, providing clinical nursing expertise to patients and their families with advancing or life limiting illness, in the south Tipperary/west Waterford area.

This care is provided in the patient’s own home or chosen place of care such as nursing homes and community hospitals.
The South Tipperary Hospice movement provides a seven day (9am-Spm) visiting service, and a seven-day (24hrs) telephone advisory service.

The team is comprised of a manager, secretary, consultant, registrar, nurses and occupational therapist. All of this is backed up by a hugely passionate and committed steering group, who are all volunteers.
This services also includes patients requiring end of life care, not only from cancer, but other diseases such as Motor Neurone etc.

The cost of such a service runs in excess of €725,000 annually. HSE contribute, however the vast amount of funds is raised by the goodwill of the people, volunteers, supporters, sponsors and of course our own "celebrities" such as yourself in this instance. Without the public’s generosity, such a wonderful service would not be able to be provided.
Hospice gives families the opportunity to remain in the comfort of their own home and reassurance, whilst in a safe and professional environment during end of life.

Without this service, patients could possibly end up having to leave the locality and travel to one of the main centres for care. This would have an immediate consequence for the patient and also the family who would have to say their goodbyes in a hospital environment.

Being in the comfort of your own home with your family surrounding you offers a peace in its own right and helps alleviate some of the anxieties that surround end of life.
On Friday, March 31 a grouping of eleven couples will take to the floor to compete in Strictly come Dancing in aid of South Tipperary Hospice.

The dancers will bravely take to the floor which may push some right out of their comfort zone but as stated by a few for such an important cause there was no option but to take part.
The dancers have spent the last several weeks rehearsing and now enjoying this experience, they cannot wait for the night to impress with their dance moves.

The audience will be blown away with dances such as The Cha Cha, Tango, Paso Doble and many more. This night of entertainment features dancers from all walks of life, a night not to be missed.
