Heroic display by Tipperary breast cancer survivors on Olympic Lake

The Suir Dragon Paddlers had a fantastic few days’ competing in the fourth international dragon boat fest in the Olympic Lake Barcelona 2023.
This was a two-day event with a practice paddle on the lake and the opening ceremony before two days of racing began.

The twenty-woman boat raced on Saturday and did extremely well.
They beat the personal best time held for ten years by the team in the breast cancer survivors’ race, and after three very fast races, the team recovered for the following day to race again.

Tino the coach was very happy to say the least. Everyone was still on a high the following day competing in the ten-woman boat and again had brilliant results and making the final in Breast Cancer Survivor’s race, paddling in the ten-woman boat is very new to the team as it was delivered on March 22.

The green international jerseys really stood out in Barcelona. The ten-woman boat is such an asset to the club and helps to keep the team training even when numbers are low, and allows for extra competitions, there is such a bond within the Suir Dragon Paddlers and new members who have survived breast cancer are always welcome to join.
