Tipperary students enjoy promoting the importance of biodiversity in our environment

Parents join in to create a special Bee Bomb planting day
Under a radiant sun, parents who had participated in a six-week gardening course from January to March returned to Bunscoil Na Cathrach in Cahir to join their children in spreading wildflower seeds.
This heartwarming event saw families dispersing seed bombs that they had crafted during the course across various areas at the front of the school.
Councillor Andy Moloney generously donated the wildflower seeds and addressed the attendees, emphasising the importance of promoting biodiversity. He highlighted how their efforts would encourage a diverse range of insect life, benefiting the local ecosystem.
The children were thrilled to reunite with their parents during the school day, enjoying hot chocolate and delicious cookies prepared by Kamelia, one of the parents from the gardening group. This gathering fostered a sense of community, allowing parents to share experiences and knowledge while enhancing the school's aesthetic appeal.
Two enthusiastic parent gardeners collaborated directly with their children's classes to plant seeds. Gemma partnered with her daughter Lily in Fifth class, while Halyna worked alongside her son Sergiy in Third class. This hands-on experience was cherished by the children, parents, teachers, and Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) alike.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Councillor Andy Moloney from Cahir for his unwavering support of Bunscoil Na Cathrach's gardening initiatives. Special thanks also go to our tutor Ruth from the Education Training Board (ETB) who guided the parents through various horticultural practices, including propagation, tree pruning, seed bomb creation, seed sowing methods, safe horticultural practices, tool handling, and composting. We also appreciate the efforts of Ann Marie Sweeney (ETB coordinator) and HSCL Jacinta Byrnes for organizing these invaluable courses within our school.
This gardening course is one of many enriching programs offered to parents at Bunscoil Na Cathrach. Currently, some parents are attending the Accredited Family Learning Digital course held in the school hall every Tuesday morning. Past courses have included Baking for Families, Beauty and Well-being, Maths for various classes, Story Bags and the Book Nook Builders course, to name a few.
At Bunscoil Na Cathrach, we are delighted to have such dedicated support from our families, who show immense interest in their children's education and the betterment of our school community. Thanks to Jacinta Byrnes (HSCL Bunscoil Na Cathrach) for this article.
