A bumper coffee morning in the Swan GAA Club Juvenile Hall in Carrick-on-Suir in memory of a young local woman who died last year, raised vital funds for a centre that supports people dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

The fundraiser, that ran from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, May 2 , was organised by the Maher family in memory of the late Donna Maher from Upper Friary Heights, Carrickbeg, who passed away last September.

The event was in aid of the Solas Cancer Support Centre in Waterford and local man Gary Russell's upcoming ultra-marathon, which is also raising funds for the centre.

Visitors to the coffee morning were treated to a buffet of delicious home-baked scones, buns and cakes kindly donated by the community and local businesses.

There was a massive raffle with over 40 prizes, including generous vouchers, sponsored by many businesses in the town and its environs.

A split-the-pot raffle for six cash prizes and a hotel voucher was also a big hit on the day.

The Maher family said they wished to sincerely thank everyone for supporting this special event, and to all who bought tickets, attended, baked and donated prizes.

They thanked Carrick Swan GAA Club for allowing them to use the Juvenile Jall for the event and all the team who sold tickets and made tea.

The Maher family also paid tribute to the staff of the Solas Cancer Support Centre for the ‘amazing support’ they gave to them.
