Bookworm Thurles will host an evening with acclaimed Tipperary journalist and writer Vincent Hogan next month

Acclaimed Irish sports journalist and Nenagh native Vincent Hogan visits Bookworm on Wednesday November 11 for an evening of conversation and reflection about his new book, The Lost Sportswriter, and his remarkable 40-year career at the forefront of sports journalism.

In The Lost Sportswriter, Hogan recounts and reflects upon 43 years at the heart of Irish sport.

From the never-ending presence of newspaper deadlines to the golden era of open dressing rooms, Hogan charts and laments how sportswriting transformed – from intimate, personality driven storytelling to today’s sterile, PR-managed exchanges.

Funny, engaging and unflinchingly self-reflective, The Lost Sportswriter notes a changing game for heroes, matches and the words that outlast them.

With four decades of experience covering some of the biggest names, events and stories in the sporting world, Hogan has established himself as one of Ireland’s leading sportswriters.

His career has seen him cover sporting spectacles all over the world, including soccer and rugby world cups, Olympic games, world heavyweight boxing and of course, all the major Irish events.

Vincent Hogan has also acted as ghostwriter for some of Ireland's greatest sporting heroes including Nicky English, Henry Shefflin, Colm 'Gooch' Cooper, Joe Canning and Eddie O’Sullivan.

His biography of the iconic Paul McGrath, 'Back From The Brink' is seen as one of the best of its genres and has won numerous national and international awards.

During his visit to Bookworm, Hogan will discuss The Lost Sportswriter, sharing the inspiration behind the book, some of the stories and experiences that have shaped his career, and his reflections on how sports journalism has changed over the past four decades.

The evening promises to offer an entertaining and fascinating glimpse behind the headlines, with insights into the world of sport, the characters he has encountered along the way and the changing landscape of newspapers and sports reporting.

It will also be an opportunity for readers and sports enthusiasts to hear first-hand from a journalist who has spent 40 years reporting on the sporting world and telling the stories behind the results.

Vincent Hogan will be in conversation at the Bookworm Bookshop at 7pm on Wednesday November 11.

This is a free event, and all are welcome.
