Work on replacing 1.7km of water mains in Carrick-on-Suir town centre begins next week

Uisce Éireann says there will be some road closures and traffic management in the form of a Stop/Go system during the project
Uisce Éireann is to begin replacing 1.7km of old and damaged water mains with modern pipes in parts of Carrick-on-Suir town centre next week.
The project is due to start next Monday, May 12 and Uisce Éireann expects it to be completed by October.
The utility says its crews will soon arrive in the town to begin the mains replacement work that will secure a “more reliable and efficient water supply” for the town.
The works will be carried out under Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme and will be carried out in phases.
Uisce Éireann says it doesn’t have an overall investment cost for the project as yet as it’s still moving through the detailed design phase.
Uisce Éireann says the project will start on the Castle Lane side of North Quay, working towards the New Street junction of the N24 onto Main Street over Dillon Bridge, then from New Street near the junction of N24 towards Main Street, to Bridge Street and West Gate towards the N24.
The utility says the areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers and traffic management in the form of a stop/go system and some road closures will be in place during these periods of work.
The utility has stressed that local and emergency traffic access will always be maintained.
Dave Murphy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, says Carrick-on-Suir is a town renowned for its rich heritage and medieval charm, but like many historic areas, it has been facing challenges due to aging infrastructure.
“These works will help reduce leakage, improve water quality and pressure and ensure a more resilient network for years to come.
“I would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and support as we carry out these essential works.”
The project will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Shareridge.
Uisce Éireann warns the works may involve some short-term disruption to customers’ water supplies, but any planned outages will be communicated to affected customers no later than 48 hours in advance.
