She described feeling intimidated in Cashel in a social media video since deleted

A woman has spoken about feeling intimidated after encountering a group of young people while out on a morning walk in Cashel earlier this week, in a social media video which has since been deleted following criticism online.

In the video, the woman explained that she had dropped her car in to have new tyres fitted and had decided to go for a walk while it was being attended to.

She said that during the walk she became aware of a number of people following her near the graveyard in Cashel.

“There were a couple of people following me and I was very conscious I had my phone and my wallet in my hand on this walk,” she said.

She made a comment about the people she had encountered, saying: “These people would like to be different, but don't like to be treated differently.”

The woman went on to describe an interaction with one of the younger members of the group, who approached her and asked her the time. She said she replied that she did not have the time.

She recalled thinking: “Jesus, these lads could try and rob me here now.”

She said she decided to step aside and allow the group to continue on their way, explaining that she had felt intimidated by the encounter.

Towards the end of the video, she referred to the group as children and reflected on how unsettling a similar encounter might be for an older person visiting a grave to leave flowers.

“God, it's changed so much,” she added.

The video has since attracted quite a bit of criticism online with the original video now deleted.
