Cashel Lions Club welcomed new President Monica Slattery

A very busy year for Cashel Lions Club culminated in the annual Handover Night in Mikey Ryan’s on Saturday July 5.

The highlight of the night was the handover of the presidential chain of office by outgoing President, Tom Horan, to incoming President Monica Slattery.

In his final presidential address Tom reviewed his time as President.

Tom highlighted the growing range of community service projects which Cashel Lions Club engages in on an annual basis.

He stated that he was particularly proud of the fact that one of his final duties as President was the recent handover of the wheelchair friendly minibus to the Cashel Day Care Centre.

This was the result of over two year’s fundraising and community support for this project.

Another highlight for Tom was the fact that a number of new members had joined the club during his term of office and this has greatly enhanced the club’s ability to continue its service to the local community.

In handing over the chain of office to Monica, Tom paid tribute to Monica’s contribution to the club in recent years.

Tom highlighted the organisational ability which Monica displayed in organising and raising the profile of the annual Peace Poster Competition.

Tom also highlighted Monica’s timely intervention in a number of Cashel Lions Club community support projects which resulted in vital assistance being provided to families and individuals on a number of occasions in recent years.

In a very impressive acceptance speech, Monica thanked the members for their support and encouragement.

Monica highlighted the satisfaction she gets from being involved in Cashel Lions Club and stated her belief that taking charge of the Peace Poster competition was the key step in cementing her involvement in the club. Monica also highlighted how much she enjoyed and benefitted from leadership programmes organised by the Lions Clubs of Ireland.

Monica gave the members a glimpse into her leadership style when she stated that in her time as President she ‘will respect the club’s past while keeping an eye on the future’.

Monica highlighted the need for new members and new ideas and said that this will be central to her term as President.

Cashel Lions Club has been serving the community since 1961 and all members wish Monica every success and happiness as she leads the club into the future.
