Push is on for funding to restore Cashel town centre historic water feature

Calls for Town Commissioners Fountain in Cashel to be restored
Town officials in Cashel have been called on to speed up the process of the restoration of a much-loved historic landmark.
The Town Commissioners Fountain in the Main Street dates from the 1840’s and is in need of repair. An application for funding was made in 2024, but no progress has been made since.
At the October meeting of the Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District, Cllr Declan Burgess pressed officials to make progress on the restoration of the monument.
Cllr Burgess told the meeting that the fountain was a beautiful feature in the town and enhanced the streetscape.
He said a commitment to do a restoration of the fountain was given previously and an application for funding was made under the Built Heritage Investment Fund.
Cllr Burgess said that at the time, the proposed restoration work was estimated to cost under €20,000.
“It is a relatively small project, and it is a project everybody would want to see take place,” said Cllr Burgess.
Cllr Burgess said the Tidy Town group and other volunteer groups carried out a lot of work in the town, and a restoration job on the fountain would further enhance the town.
He was told by officials that the previous application could be updated and it would fall under the historic infrastructure category and an application would be made in January for funding.
Cllr Burgess said he did not want the application to slip away. It was originally submitted in 2024 and it was an important matter that should be followed up.
