Rock of Cashel to shine purple as transplant survivor completes amazing feat for charity

Alison Fogarty McCarthy has completed a 180km charity walk
The iconic Rock of Cashel in Tipperary will be illuminated in purple on Thursday evening to celebrate the completion of Alison Fogarty McCarthy’s remarkable 180km fundraising walk in support of the Irish Kidney Association.
Alison, a 48-year-old from Tipperary town, began her journey on March 6 and aims to conclude it in Cashel on March 13, coinciding with World Kidney Day.
Having been diagnosed with Bartter Syndrome at a young age, Alison has faced significant health challenges throughout her life, including undergoing two kidney transplants.
This year’s World Kidney Day holds special significance as it marks one year since her first transplant. Her fundraising efforts have already garnered close to €8,000 through her iDonate page.
Expressing her gratitude, Alison extended thanks to Beaumont Hospital for performing the life-saving surgeries and paid tribute to her donor, whose generosity granted her a second chance at life.
“I chose to support the Irish Kidney Association CLG because all donations go directly to this wonderful cause,” she shared. “If you’re able to contribute, please click the donate button - every donation makes a difference.”
Alison’s challenge involved walking the equivalent distance from her home in Tipperary town to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin - approximately 180km, covering an average of 25km per day.
