A new Vacancy and Dereliction Regeneration team has been set up in the county council’s planning section
The process to have both buildings on the site formerly known as Jimmy Keating’s shop in Elm Park, Clonmel, formally declared derelict is underway.
District Administrator Carol Creighton told a meeting of Clonmel Borough District that one building, “the old shop” is on the Derelict Sites Register and is the subject of an annual derelict sites levy being issued.
In the case of the other building, “the bungalow”, a Section 8 (2) Notice, which gives notice of the council’s intention to enter the property on the Derelict Sites Register, was issued to the owners last week.
The owners will have 28 days to respond to the notice and if they fail to respond or act the property can then be entered on the register.
Ms Creighton added that the derelict site notice will not interfere with a CPO (Compulsory Purchase Order) should the town regeneration team decide to proceed with one.
The District Administrator was responding to a request by Deputy Mayor Pat English, who had asked for an update on the site.
At previous meetings Cllr English had stated that anti-social behaviour was a problem at the site.
In a written report to the meeting, Carol Creighton also stated that a new Vacancy and Dereliction Regeneration team had been set up in the planning section of Tipperary County Council.
The Derelict Sites function, currently with the council’s Environment and Climate Action section, was in the process of transferring to this new team.
It was expected that this process would be complete by the end of the year, she added.
