Double celebration in West Cork for talented Tipperary musicians

Spectacular success for Banna Chluain Meala in Clonakilty
Banna Chluain Meala put on a spectacular performance to secure first place in the Junior section. A huge shoutout goes to Banna’s brilliant Musical Director, Peter Taylor, whose meticulous preparation and dedication continues to bring out the absolute best in the young musicians.
The success was all the more commendable, as the Banna bus broke down and only arrived in Clonakilty with 20 minutes to spare before the competition started. However, after a quick warm-up and percussion team set-up they were on.
Clonmel Concert Band followed up with another brilliant achievement, taking home third place in the highly competitive Senior section, under the wonderful direction of conductor Danny Carroll.
It was a double celebration for Clonmel in the West Cork town, and the musicians were great ambassadors for the town.
Although known as the South of Ireland Championships, bands come from all over the country to compete.
The adjudicators were Philip Harper and Sheena Wade.
The event also featured day-long street performances in Clonakilty.
A spokesperson for Banna Chluain Meala stated, “We are so incredibly proud of all the hard work, dedication, and beautiful music brought to the stage by both bands and their conductors. Huge thanks to the organisers, judges and everyone who came out to support us in West Cork.
“Maith sibh go léir! Let’s keep the music playing!”
