According to Tipperary County Council’s June management report, a significant number of animals were seized across the county in recent months.

During the first half of May 2025, the report reveals that there were 22 reports of loose horses to the Environment & Climate Action section of the council. This led to a total of 21 horses being seized across Tipperary.

A total of 66 dogs were also surrendered or seized by the dog wardens up until 30 April this year; 37 of that number were sent to rescue, 10 were reclaimed by their owners, 3 were rehomed and 11 were put to sleep.

The section continues to work with animal welfare organisations on the rehoming of dogs.

The number of dog licenses purchased for the year up until April 30 was 2,638 and the number of XL Bully Certificate of Exemptions issued up until that same date was 55 for the year so far.

It was recently reported that the council are seeking to hire another dog warden to meet demands.
