Loughmore/Castleiney's Liam McGrath
Loughmore/Castleiney's Liam McGrath has been honoured with an Annerville award, sponsored by Bulmers.
The awards will be presented to the Tipperary amateur sports stars of the year by the Tipperary United Sports Panel at the Talbot Hotel Clonmel this Saturday night, January 25.
The man of the match award that Liam McGrath received after the County Senior Football Championship final was beyond question.
The Loughmore/Castleiney player’s kicking off either foot in the difficult conditions was the difference between his team and Clonmel Commercials, who were trying to win the title for the third time in a row.
His five first half points, which included three frees and two eyecatching points from play, put his team in the driving seat, as they led by 0-9 to 0-4 at the interval. They maintained their grip on the contest in the second half to win by 0-11 to 0-7 and claim their 16th county senior football title.
Liam McGrath was no less influential in the earlier rounds. He was the standout player in the first half of their semi-final against Moyle Rovers, kicking six points, two from play, as they inflicted a heavy 17-points defeat on the Powerstown/Lisronagh team.
He was also to the fore when they beat Mid rivals JK Brackens in the quarter-final, as they geared up for a successful push at winning their second county senior football crown in four years.
