The problem was highlighted by Fine Gael Cllr Mark Fitzgerald at Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District's monthly meeting

Street parking spaces in Grangemockler are being hogged by the vehicles of holiday makers catching the bus to Dublin Airport from the village, a councillor complained at Carrick Municipal District’s monthly meeting.

Fine Gael Cllr Mark Fitzgerald called on Tipperary County Council to take action to deal with the problem that is leaving the village short of parking spaces because of cars parked up for up to two weeks while their owners are on vacation.

The Cloneen councillor told Council management a lot of people are taking the bus to Dublin Airport from Grangemockler and leaving their cars parked on the village’s Main Street while they are on holidays despite the fact there is a car park around the corner from the street.

He complained the taking up of these parking spaces was having a knock on impact on the village’s businesses, whose customers are finding it difficult to get parking.

Cllr Fitzgerald asked the Council to erect signage to warn motorists they can only park for an hour on the street.

“I am hoping that might be a simple solution to the problem. If someone is parking their car for two weeks and are warned they will be clamped or fined, they will go to the car park,” he said.

District Engineer Michael Scully said he would visit Grangemockler and look at the situation and see what measures could be put in place to deal with the parking problem. He promised to come back to Cllr Fitzgerald on the issue.
