A man in his seventies has died following a single-vehicle collision on the R660 at Holycross. The crash occurred shortly after 2.15pm on Sunday, and the man, the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man has been named locally as Patrick Skehan, known to many as Pat, who ran the family pub, Skehan’s, in Holycross Village.
His body was later transferred to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination, and the local coroner has been notified.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, with Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carrying out a technical examination. The R660 has since reopened to traffic.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses, particularly those travelling on the R660 around the time of the collision.
Anyone with camera or dash cam footage is urged to contact Thurles Garda Station on 0504 25100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any local Garda station.
