The McLoughlins, who celebrated the shop’s 40th anniversary in 2024, informed loyal customers of their decision in recent weeks. “In fairness to the McLoughlin family, ever the professionals, they have communicated that decision to their loyal customers over the last number of weeks,” the Facebook post noted.

Renowned for its traditional, old-fashioned approach, the shop has been a hub of personal service.

“Their hardware shop will be remembered as an old fashioned shop in most regards, especially the fact that you'd always meet Celine or one of her brothers, William; their late father was a permanent fixture in the shop, from opening to close … creating a family business where you'd find almost anything hardware related and more,” the post added.

Community members of the local Facebook group have shared warm tributes online.

One wrote, “Thank you all Celine, Denis, Laurence, and Noel for carrying on the legacy of your wonderful late parents … Congratulations on your retirement and good health and happiness for the future. Ni bheidh a leithid ann aris.” Another added, “Best of luck in your retirement. Such a great kind family … Ye will be badly missed and wishing ye all best for the future.”

For more than four decades, McLoughlin's has served Nenagh and the surrounding area, leaving a lasting impression on the local community.
