Tipperary man awarded Benemerenti Papal Medal

We offer our sincere congratulations to Con Dwyer who was recently awarded the Benemerenti Papal Medal.

The award, which is in recognition of service to Church and Community over a long period, was presented to Con by Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan at a Mass in St Mary’s Church, Newcastle, on Friday, 23rd February.  The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Cullinan who was assisted by Fr Garrett Desmond PP and Fr Bobby Power.

In his homily, Fr Desmond referred to Con’s involvement in various Parish organisations and the fact that he remains an active member of the Finance Committee.  However, Con states that anything he has done for the Parish was always the result of teamwork and therefore he wished that the Award be shared with the Parish.

The special Mass was attended by many relatives, neighbours and friends and was followed by excellent refreshments and entertainment in the Community Hall.

Con, his wife Madeline, and their family would again like to thank Bishop Cullinan, Fr Desmond and Fr Power and everyone who attended, especially those outside the Parish and the UK, and all those who sent good wishes or cards.  They would also like to sincerely thank all those involved in organising the Mass and the evening at the Community Hall.  Indeed, it was an occasion that will be remembered for some time.
