Fitzgibbon Cup: See how Tipperary players fared after the first week of action

Round 2 commenced earlier this week on Wednesday January 25th last with the clash of University of Galway and SETU Waterford, with the Galway college emerging as comfortable victors on a 2-23 to 1-13 score. There were no Tipperary representatives playing in this game.

On the same night, Mary Immaculate College were handed a big blow in their hopes for this year, as they lost out to DCU in an exciting contest by 2-21 to 2-18.

Devon Ryan was the scorer in chief again for the Limerick college, scoring 1-8 (1-1 from play) while Aaron Ryan, Keith Ryan (both Upperchurch Drombane), JD Devaney, and Diarmuid Looby (Lattin Cullen) also played in the game.

The two final games of Round 2 took place last night Thursday January 26th firstly with the clash of Maynooth Univesity and UCD in Group C; the latter winning out by 1-23 to 0-22.

Colm Fogarty again was the only Tipperary player on view and repeated his 0-1 tally from the first round, lining out at corner forward once again.

Finally, in Group D, University of Limerick came out easy winners in the derby match with TUS Midwest pulling away early in the second half to record a 2-24 to 1-13 victory.

Gearoid O'Connor was once again the standout Premier county player on the night scoring 0-12 (0-5 from play) along with Bryan O'Mara who scored 0-1 from long range in the first half in a typically assured performance from the Holycross Ballycahill man. Cian Darcy appeared from the bench in the second half while Rhys Shelly returned to the bench with the comeback of Dean Mason as netminder.

For TUS Midwest, they had a sizeable Tipperary representation in their first game, Brian Og O'Dwyer (Rosegreen), Kevin McCarthy (Toomevara) and the Tynan brothers Alan and Darragh (Roscrea) all scored 0-1 from play from the start, along Ger Grant (Upperchurch Drombane) and Evan Fitzpatrick (Roscrea) also started the game, while Gearoid Ryan of Cappawhite came on as a second half substitute.
