Over the last few weeks, the National Basketball Arena in Dublin has been the venue for the latter stages of the All-Ireland Basketball League and Cup competitions. On Tuesday February 7, the under 16 boys from CTI Clonmel travelled to Tallaght for the All-Ireland quarter-finals of the League competition. Carrigaline provided the opposition in what proved to be a very close game throughout. Having trailed by one point at half time, CTI opened a six points lead entering the final quarter. However, Carrigaline closed to gap to two, before CTI finished with a flourish winning by 43-39.
The boys had very little time to recover before facing into a semi-final clash with Coláiste Chú Chulainn from Louth. The Leinster team proved stronger on the day and the journey for the CTI U16’s for this year came to an end.
A number of the panel will be underage again for next year and the experience they gained this year will be invaluable. A huge congratulations to all involved, most especially the players and the coaching team of Colm Ó Conghaola and Luke Boland. A big thank you also to the parents and siblings who travelled to Dublin.
The 1st and 2nd Year teams have recently started their leagues and have been very successful also. We wish them all the best for the rest of this year. In a short space of time, CTI has become established as a very strong basketball school – something that they are very proud of.
