County U13C Football Championship Final
Portroe 4-9
Newcastle 2-6
Portroe’s greater firepower was the difference as they defeated a game Newcastle side in the opening final on Sunday last. Portroe’s two goals before half time was the difference in the end.
Very little separated the teams in the opening eighteen minute with scores level on two occasion but approaching half time, Portroe finally found a chink in the Newcastle defence when Craig McKenna and Shaun Murphy scored a goal each to give them a 2-4 to 0-4 half time lead.
A goal and a point inside the third minutes of the second half by Sam McDonnell was the perfect start for the South champions. McDonnell was very much on the ball and had huge help from Zach Kiely and Callum Hackett in attack with Sam Cullinan and James Williams in defence.
However, Portroe were quick to reform and four unanswered points plus two goals inside three minutes by Cody O’Connor and Cormac Madden had the title heading back up to the north.
