REPORTS: U13 Mid finals threw up some brilliant fare in a feast of juvenile deciders

Mid Tipperary U13D Hurling Championship Final

Holycross Ballycahill 4-8

Durlas Óg 3-5

The first of the day’s action saw a Cathal Craddock-inspired Holycross Ballycahill lift the Germinal Seeds sponsored Mid U13 Group 4 trophy in a sun kissed Templetuohy.

In a frantic start to this game, Durlas Óg found themselves two goals to nothing after three minutes. Conor Guinan and Daniel O’Grady provided the goals in a whirlwind start for the Thurles side.

Holycross Ballycahill refused to let this phase them and they got their opening two points moments later with Diarmuid Ryan and man of the match Cathal Craddock both pointing.

Guinan pointed for his side before Craddock again scored to leave the scoreline 2-1 to 0-3 points to Durlas Óg.
Holycross kept their approach simple and basic hurling was the order of the day and it served them well.

Dylan Ryan pointed on the halfway mark of the half to reduce the gap to three. Durlas Óg though, came into their purple match hitting the next three points from O’Grady, Guinan and Hassett to increase their lead to six.

Holycross battled hard in the remaining minutes of the half and were rewarded with their own goal, a 65m that made its way to the net. 2-4 to 1-4 at the break.

The second half began similarly to the first. Durlas Óg were first to raise a green flag when O’Grady’s free dropped into the net.

The next play saw Holycross respond in the best manner. Callum Fennessy pulled first time to net and reduced the gap to three. Both teams traded scores with Craddock (two points) and Guinan all scoring. Durlas Óg up by two.
Holycross Ballycahill were rewarded for their hard work with Craddock again to the fore. His second goal of the afternoon put his side into the lead by one.

This gave his side the confidence to push on and they did just that. Callum Fennessy scored their fourth goal of the game with Craddock and Skehan tapping over two more points to see them run out winners in what was a fantastic game of hurling.
Captain Tony Bannon gleefully accepted the Group 4 trophy from Chairman PJ Bowden with Cathal Craddock announced man of the match after a brilliant individual display.
